Whale Diary

10:00 - This morning the seas were calm with a partially cloudy sky overhead. We first had a stop at the puffin island which was absolutely riddled with these adorable little fellas. After that, it was time to go further into the bay and try and find some of our big friends. After searching about we found a sleepy humpback whale. We managed to stick nice and close while it was taking its nap but after a while we decided to let it enjoy it´s rest and continue onwards. Shortly after we found a second humpback. Which, after a beautiful fluke dive, we could identify as Bubbles! This friendly whale was once again treating us to a visit here in the bay and so we hung out with this familiar face until time ran out and we set sail towards Reykjavik. What a lovely start of the day!

12:00 - The tour started in a windy and rainy weather, we had to sail quiet far to encounter a Humpback whale. We saw it's tale couple of time and then it was gently cruising on the surface showing it's face once in a while. we then went back to see some puffins before the end of the tour.

14:00 - We set sail with some sunshine and a nice brisk breeze. We first headed around the harbor to investigate a cetacean we heard was in the area. It was a good thing we took a look because it lead to an amazing sighting of one male Orca! Our fish finder showed lots of food in the area and we spent some time watching him dive for food and admiring his impressive dorsal fin! They even swam under us at one point, what a thrill! We then headed out into the bay and found not only one humpback whale, but also one minke whale! We were able to see many breaths from this sleepy humpback and even smelled some of their fishy breath! It was then time to set sail back to port, but the fun did not stop there; because on the journey back we saw another solitary minke whale that we suspect to be feeding in the area. Lucky for us this normally elusive species allowed us to admire them for multiple surfaces before we once again set our sights for port. On the way we took some time to admire our Atlantic puffins here for the breeding season. What an amazing tour!

16:00 - We started by heading to Lundey to observe puffins and other sea birds then set sail towards the whale watching area. There we stumbled upon a Humpback whale and could enjoy a close view of it´s tale and hang out with it for a pleasant time before heading back.

20:00 - We headed first to Akurey where we saw a lot of Puffins from up close, then, we sailed in search for the whales. We shortly encounter a duo of Humpback whales that were quite big and showing a lot of tricks. After a while we desicided to screen a different area and found white beak dolphins. on our way back to the shore we spotted a Minke whale and few harbour porpoises.
