Whale Safari Guides

Whale Safari Guides

Species seen today: minke whales, white-beaked dolphins.

10:00 - Finally we had a very calm, flat sea to really optimise our fun and enjoyment out in the bay. On this adventure we first travelled north to find a large scattered pod of white-beaked dolphins. All in all there must hav ebeen at least 20 individuals in 3-4 scattered pods. 3 individuals in particular played under and around our boat, really enjoying our company as we enjoyed theirs. We then went looking for whales and encountered at least 10 minkie whales spread out in a large area we motored through. They were busy feeding, on one occasion one was feeding at the surface, causing a big splash and showing half of its body and tail as it rolled. A great morning tour.

14:00 - This mornings tour was great but this afternoon was amazing. The sea calmed even more and once we got to the area after 20mins of fun speediness we had minke whales and white-beaked dolphins popping up everywhere. We saw at least 20 minkie whales scattered throughout a large area, 2-3 surfacing at the same time and area sometimes and at least 4 pods of white-beaked dolphins. One of these pods there were about 8-10 individuals with their calves and they were in a feeding frenzy. Some were leaping out the water, schooling the fish to others in the pod. It was a perfect day to be out on the water that was full of life.
