Species seen today: minke whales, humpback whales, white beaked dolphins

Conditions today were a little challenging with a short swell and increasing winds. Regardless our boats had some fantastic sightings of minke whales and white beaked dolphins in areas surrounded by fabulous gannets diving for fish and many other seabirds feeding. With so many minke whales around it was hard to know where to look and we witnessed some surface feeding. Our later tours spotted minke whales feeding under birds, scattered througout the area. One of our boats had a very close encounter with a pair of white beaked dolphins that swam very close to the boat before diving away. A humpback whale then surfaced amongst a larger pod of dolphins and as we waited it surfaced again within a metre of the boat bellowing in displeasure at the dolphins that were now harrassing it! All in all an excellent day of sightings.
