Whale Safari Guides
Species seen today: humpback whale, minke whale, white beaked dolphin, harbour porpoise
Weather conditions in the morning were very calm with light winds. We were able to find large flocks of feeding birds which pointed us towards other marine wildlife. We found minke whales feeding and also a humpback which has been named Mariupol, one of our regular visitors to Faxafloi Bay. In the afternoon conditions started out equally good with further large groups of birds and feeding minke whales. At one site we had five minkes feeding underneath flocks of kittiwakes, lesser black backed gulls and Arctic terns. The weather conditions began to deteriorate later in the afternoon with the wind and choppy seas making conditions much harder to find the wildlife. We were in luck though, as we discovered Mariupol again and this time breaching repeatedly, waving his pectoral fins and tail slapping. A fabulous end to the day.
