09:00 - There was very little wind this morning but still a very little bit of swell from yesterday. However conditions were excellent and we could explore different areas of Faxaflói. We went towards south and spotted 3-4 pods of 2-4 harbour porpoises. We continued passed those shy cetaceans and spotted a minke whale surfacing non far from us. Its further south that a humpback whale was calmly swimming, with short dives and slowly coming to the surface. We saw its beautiful fluke a couple of times before getting back to the harbour.

12:00 - On this noon tour, the weather look a bit better and the sea was almost like glass. Not too long into the tour we had about 10 to 15 harbour porpoises close to Grotta. We went far in search of a hint we had from another boat and it took us about 50 minutes to get there. But oh boy, it was worth it! We started to see loads and loads of blows, signaling an abnormal amount of large whales feeding in the same area. As we got closer we started to distinguish each species, so we had about 50 humpback whales and 6 to 7 fin whales!!! All of them in the same place, a once in a life time experience seeing so many whales in one single spot, just like a documentary! We stayed with them for a while but since we were very far from Reykjavík, we had to start our way back to the harbour. As we were going around the bend, we saw a huge pod of 80 to 90 white-beaked dolphins just porpoising away into the open ocean, what a nice surprise to end this AMAZING tour!!!

15:00 - With great (but cold) weather, we were excited to get back out into the bay this afternoon. We sailed towards the South, and started seeing some blows up a head. Some turned into many, and before we knew it, we were watching about 50 humpback whales and approximately 10 fin whales swimming all around us. Some whales came incredibly close to us, and if we looked in the distance we could see whales coming up in all directions every second. A few white-beaked dolphins also appeared in the area, and we also saw a few harbour porpoises. We just couldn´t believe this once-in-a-lifetime experience we were lucky enough to be a part of.
