Whale Safari Guides

Whale Safari Guides

Species seen today: Orca, Humpback whale

Today the conditions were favourable in the morning so we were able to go out for our 10am Whales, Puffins and Reykjavik tour and lucky we did! This morning's tour was one of the best we've had recently. As we headed out, our captain heard that there had been an orca spotted in the bay! Orcas aren't seen in Faxafloi regularly so this was really special! We went straight to the area where the individual was seen and were able to follow it for a while. The individual was a big male and was swimming very fast, making it an exciting sighting and a little tricky to keep track of. After we were joined by other boats, we left and found a small, young humpback whale. It was surfacing fairly regularly and at one point came so close to the boat we could have touched it! Unfortunately, the wind and swell picked up throughout the rest of the day and meant that we had to cancel all of our other whale watching tours. Hopefully you can join us in the future when the weather is better!
